Position Summary:
The Food Technologist is responsible for assisting in duties supporting the
development of new products, analytical sample analysis, processing product
development via bench-top, pilot plant, or actual plant processing systems.
Assist with product demonstrations for customers. Help maintain the record-Keeping
system so that it is efficient and user-friendly. The successful candidate
will have a proven track record in working with testing and manufacturing
food products. The Incumbent has the responsibility to work with team members
to provide superior customer service to company clients, consumers and customers.
Additionally, the Food Technologist is responsible for building positive
relationships with work teams throughout the organization.
Competencies & Essential Duties:
- Execute projects / research programs designed
to result in new or improved products, or improved quality of
existing products and processes.
- Conduct food technology experimentation
including taste test panel evaluation with test batches for new
products or processes.
- Implement all technical aspects of a
project as directed and ensure that all assigned project tasks
proceed according to plan. Cooperate with and provide technical
assistance to other staff groups associated with same projects.
- Provide technical assistance to the manufacturing
organization with regard to raw material evaluation, equipment
purchase and development of process specifications, as well as
identification of operational opportunities and issue resolution.
- Coordinate pilot plant and initial production
runs on new products or processes.
- Prepare and supply formulas and specification
and all other documentation for new products.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical
proposals, amendments, project status reports and project termination
reports. Maintain required documentation in accordance with established
procedures.
- Maintain current awareness of technical
developments in specialty field, and an awareness of product
/ process opportunities and make recommendation for the same.
- Participate and mentor camaraderie among group
technical team as well as company technical community.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to involve, motivate and

- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret
scientific and technical reports, periodicals, technical manuals,
and books that relate to the product development / R&D field.
- Discuss / explain technical issues
to the sales department, potential customers, other members of
the food industry, etc.

- Define problems, collect and interpret
data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Capacity to interpret data in a

Prerequisites and Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in food Science,
Food and Nutrition, Microbiology, or a related field and a combination
of education and experience.
- Food processing laboratory and product
development / R&D experience is desirable.
- Experience directly related product
development experience in a food, manufacturing, or packaging
organization.
- Strong interpersonal skills and
the ability to model appropriate leadership behavior.
- Strong verbal and written communication
